Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment Services Offered In Morristown, TN

Through Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, DOs use their hands to diagnose illness and injury and encourage your body’s natural tendency toward self-healing. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine have a keen understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one affects the others.

As part of their education, DOs receive special training in the musculoskeletal system, your body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. Using OMT, your DO can effectively treat your muscles and joints to relieve pain, promote healing and increase overall mobility.

OMT is often used to treat muscle pain, but it can also help provide relief for patients with other conditions including severe headaches, sinus disorders, and carpal tunnel syndrome. In many cases, OMT can be used to complement, or even replace, drugs or surgery. By combining the latest advances in medical technology with OMT, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine offer their patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine today.

FAQ: Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment

How much does OMT cost if I am a member?
The cost is included in membership up to 12 visits per year. After that, OMT is $40/visit for members.

If you are not a member, OMT is billed at the following rates (includes evaluation and treatment time).

20 mins = $75
30 mins = $100
45 mins = $125
60 mins = $150

Typically OMT does not hurt, but everyone responds differently. Some people experience no pain or discomfort, others will feel intense discomfort with certain techniques.
In general, OMT is very safe. The most common beneficial side effects of OMT are increased range of motion, decreased pain, and improved enjoyment of activities of daily living. The most common negative side effects are soreness, minor swelling, and bruising. In rare circumstances, patients have developed hematomas and radicular pain. These more serious symptoms are typically due to patients having existing conditions that predispose them to such. Please ask the doctor questions or let them know if you have any concerns.
Being warm and relaxed is helpful before and during treatment. Stretching before and after treatment is advised. Drinking plenty of water after treatment helps the body remove toxins and lubricate the joints.

Wearing comfortable clothing (like workout clothes) that you can bend and move easily in is helpful.
